Assignment 8

LAKSHMI
To me, Lakshmi is a strong girl for what she has gone through. She is a poor girl who was forced into prostitution by her stepfather. The family thought she would be working as a maid in the city, but only the stepfather knew the real truth. I see her as a young, and innocent girl who falls for most tricks. At first, she was made to believe many lies, and at the end, she ends up not believing the truth. She is the type of person who has a lot of hope for her and her family. She is always looking for ways to help her family out, unlike her stepfather...

Still Here
by
Langston Hughes

I been scared and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
Snow has friz me,
Sun has baked me,
Looks like between 'em they done
Tried to make me
Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--
But I don't care!
I'm still here!

This poem reminds me so much of Lakshmi. This poem is talking about his hopes going away, and things trying to stop him from many things. This poem describes how Lakshmi feels for some reason. Just the way Lakshmi had rough times, and her hopes went away, she still stayed strong. It seems like this poem was made just for her..
